After being invited to join Cathy and Laura in Albufeira, Portugal for a join pre 40th birthday celebration, I decided to venture to Lisbon a few days beforehand. I stayed in a quaint little hostel in Barrio Alto, close to everything.

The very first night I met Andrea from Argentina. Same name. Same Age. Similar job. Tons in common. We spoke spanish for the next 3 days and had tons of fun visiting Barrio Alto, the famous a Tasco de Chico and enjoyed several inexpensive and delicious meals together.

The Fado (emotionally sad portuguese music) was fantastic at A Tasco de Chico, we returned three times that week. The place wasn’t any larger than an average flat! Covered in photos of singers past, locals and tourists alike share the tiny tables and some great laughs. Note the tiny doors, which usually came up to my lower shoulder (1, 113, 82)!

We explored Barrio Alto, ate Chorizo Asado in Alfama, had lunch at Mercado de Ribeira and the commercial district of Lisbon. After a few lovely days, Andrea decided to visit me in Barcelona during the week of my birthday. Yippee.

The next day hopped on a train to Albufeira, on the Algarve Coast of Portugal.
